Fujitsu BSC Launches MobileUnity Software Providing Integrated Development Environment for Smart Phones

Fujitsu Broad Solution & Consulting Inc. (President: Takao Kaneko; Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; “Fujitsu BSC) is pleased to announce that on April 1, 2008, it will launch MobileUnity, a new integrated development environment software for smart phones.
MobileUnity will offer an integrated environment for developing software that enables smart phones (Windows Mobile®6) to be used for business activities. It will allow business application development/execution infrastructure, device control/terminal operations management function, security functions, and other features.
MobileUnity combines multiple functions in a single solution to offer an environment for developing high-performance, high-quality business application systems that ensure securities and operation control, essential elements for using smart phones for business. It also enables the separate introduction of a terminal operation control function, security functions, and other features, depending on the customers’ needs.

MobileUnity’s Functions
Development/Execution Infrastructures
MobileUnity offers execution infrastructures for developing and executing applications designed to enable smart phones to
be used for business operations. The execution environment incorporates an execution engine for business applications using
XML-driven architecture(*1) for the Microsoft .NET Framework, enabling common business applications independent of industry
or operation type. Business applications are executed by introducing a business operation class, on which business logic is
written, to this execution environment. The development environment offers an automatic function for generating a business
operation class template source from screen and slip definitions (C# language) to permit developers to concentrate on business
processing.
(*1) XML-driven architecture is a patent-pending method of executing an application in an interpretative way based on the system’s input/output slip (XML document).
Device and Operation Control
MobileUnity offers interfaces for devices incorporated in smart phones (such as cameras and QR code readers) and connected to smart phones using Bluetooth® technology (such as mobile printers and barcode readers), which are necessary for developing a business application. Business applications can be used without needing to worry about the difference of API, SDK and other elements specific to each handset manufacturer . Moreover, MobileUnity offers the operation control functions needed to use a smart phone for business operations, including those for shutting down/restarting remote terminals and deleting remote data.
Security Functions
MobileUnity offers encryption functions for use with internal memory and external media in the event the smart phone or external media is lost or stolen. It also offers functions for preventing information leaks that manage data paths (including external media, wireless LAN, and infrared communication ports) and available applications, to prevent the data from being stolen. What’s more, encrypted data can be communicated between smart phones and PCs.
